Courseware on the Fly

This thesis may be copied and lent to others by the University of Dublin. III SUMMARY Third level education is at the moment experiencing a period of rapid change. Innovative teaching methods, in which new technology will figure, are required to enable universities maintain a high standard of education in the face of increasing demands from students [TUC92]. The introduction of new technology, by exposing us to wider ranges of education possibilities should course reflection upon and possibly reconsideration of the manner and techniques employed. One key to effective computer aided teaching systems is the ability to dynamically adapt learning strategies to the needs of individual students. 'Courseware on-the-fly' seeks to provide 'just in time' course material composition based on student profiles while adhering to pedagogical rules. IV 1.
